Foreign Office issue travel warning for Vietnam as tropical storm approaches - Storm Wipha is forecast to make landfall on Tuesday

Wipha has remained steady but its winds are forecast to increase from 88 kph to 89-117 kph as it intensifies and hits the Gulf of Tonkin and Vietnam’s coast.

HANOI: Tropical Storm Wipha (Storm No. 3) is closing in on northern Vietnam after entering mainland southern China early on July 20, bringing heavy rains, strong winds and heightened risks of flash floods and landslides across large parts of the country.

Wipha, the third storm to hit Vietnam this year, is expected to bring torrential rains from tonight until Wednesday, particularly in the northeastern and central regions.

A boy survived the sinking of a tourist boat in Vietnam which killed dozens of people by sheltering in an air pocket of the overturned vessel, it has emerged.

A total of 35 people has been confirmed dead and four remain missing after a cruise ship capsized in Ha Long Bay, northern Vietnam's Quang Ninh province, local authorities said on Sunday.
