SAN JUAN COUNTY, CO – A Michigan runner collapsed and died while competing in an endurance race in the southwest Colorado mountains. The deceased runner was identified as 60-year-old Elaine Stypula, according to the San Juan County Colorado Coroner’s Office.

An ultrarunner collapsed on a high mountain trail outside Silverton only three hours after the start of the Hardrock Hundred, a 102.5-mile endurance race in the southwest Colorado mountains.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has issued a statewide air quality alert as Canadian wildfire smoke pushes into the state. The alert is in effect through Monday as the smoke moves through the area,

Wildfire smoke coming in from Canada has overspread much of Michigan already today. It will create hazy skies, and has prompted an Air Quality Alert for much of the state. The alert will stretch into Monday.
