Formula 1 race steward Tim Mayer confirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the sport’s governing body on Friday, claiming that incumbent Mohammed Ben Sulayem has clashed with star drivers and failed to deliver on promises of reform.

American Tim Mayer will stand against incumbent Mohammed Ben Sulayem for the FIA presidency in December's election.

Mayer, 59, is the first candidate to officially stand against the incumbent president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who is seeking re-election at the end of his first four-year term.
