Salsa recall over Listeria concern: FDA
The FDA warns that Listeria monocytogenes is known for causing fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and can also lead to stillbirth in severe cases. So far, the FDA said, no illnesses have been reported; however, anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
The recall includes both individual fruits and multi-packs of peaches sold under the brand Moonlight Companies, according to an alert on the Food and Drug Administration website. Some yellow peaches sold under the Kroger brand name are also affected by the recall.
The recalled products are associated with 27 cases and 6 deaths, including a case in North Carolina. Here's what we know.
The FDA has announced a recall for Moonlight Companies’ California-grown yellow and white peaches due to possible Listeria contamination. The fruit was sold between September 16 and October 29 at stores including Trader Joe’s and Kroger.
The federal agency issued the notice on October 30, and to date, no cases of Listeria infection linked to the recall have been reported.
Kroger also posted recall notices for Snowfruit Peach Salsa and Supreme Produce Peach Salsa related to the Moonlight recall. Moonlight said that for the packaged items recalled, the facility code is P1 and the lot code is 69PWPR. Food Lion announced the Moonlight recall on Wednesday.
