Rich Peppiatt's Irish hip-hop biopic on the Belfast-based trio - boasting Michael Fassbender among its ensemble - scored six nominations on Wednesday.

The Kneecap film has received six nominations in the British Film Academy Awards - including in the Outstanding British Film category.

Irish language rap band Kneecap said they are delighted to have received six nominations for this year's BAFTA Awards for their self-titled debut film.

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) will hand out its prizes on February 14 at the Royal Convention Centre in Dublin.

Saoirse Ronan has been nominated in the leading actress category for her role in Outrun. Reacting to their six Bafta nominations, Kneecap took a swipe at the British establishment. “For long enough the British Government has stolen Ireland’s treasures, and even our f****** food – there was no famine,” the trio said in statement.
