The Deer Creek and South Rim fires are burning in Montrose County, with the South Rim Fire estimated at 3,500 acres as of Sunday morning. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in southwestern Colorado is closed due to wildfires on both rims of the canyon.
Officials announced Saturday morning that the South Rim Fire has grown to 2,896 acres with 0% containment.Montrose County evacuated the community of Bostwick Park on Friday after activity increased on the western flank and southeast section of the fire edge.
The visitor center and a wastewater treatment plant were among the 50 to 80 structures lost, the park superintendent said. The area was evacuated Thursday.
