Fighting has intensified between Russia and Ukraine as the Kremlin claimed its forces are closing in on a key city in the east of Ukraine. Overnight, Russian strikes hit the city of Bilytske, close to Pokrovsk, injuring two women and setting a two-storey building on fire.

The General Staff of Ukraine's military made no mention of the village in a late evening report. It reported "intensive" Russian activity in the Pokrovsk sector, with Ukrainian forces repelling 39 attacks by Moscow's forces and nine clashes continuing.
