For the first time in a long time, Pierre-Luc Dubois feels like he fits in. Just 41 games into his tenure with the Washington Capitals, who took a chance and acquired him following a rough year with the Los Angeles Kings,

But the Capitals were expecting the game to be “a little bit nasty,” as Coach Spencer Carbery put it after his team won, 2-1, in overtime behind two goals from center Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was at the center of the high-emotion proceedings throughout.

Dubois made a nifty feed on a two-on-one breakaway to Ethan Frank for an insurance goal in the third period. The 26-year-old has two goals and six points in seven games during the month of January and has been promoted to the top line alongside Alex Ovechkin which should further enhance his already well-rounded fantasy appeal.

The Washington Capitals took a gamble on Pierre-Luc Dubois over the summer. The Capitals struck a trade with the Los Angeles Kings to acquire the former third-overall pick after a disappointing 2023-24 season.

In goal, Logan Thompson and Hunter Shepard worked in both nets, with Charlie Lindgren not skating as he recovers from an upper-body injury he suffered in Friday's loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Lindgren remains on the IR, but Carbery said he’s progressing well and they will see if he can be activated Saturday.

The left wing practiced Monday on a line with Dubois at center and Aliaksei Protas at right wing. Ovechkin, who has 20 goals in 27 games this season and is 22 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky ’s NHL record of 894 goals, has played regularly with Dylan Strome, who practiced on a line with Connor McMichael and Tom Wilson.
