A man was left with serious life-threatening injuries Thursday night after his car plunged off a Washington, DC, bridge into the icy waters below during a snowstorm. The driver was involved in a crash with another vehicle on the Arlington Memorial Bridge when his car flew over the side railing of the bridge into the Potomac River just before 7 p.

WASHINGTON — Rescue divers were plunging into the cold Potomac River waters Thursday night, after a car apparently was submerged after crashing into another car and then into a section of railing on the bridge, according to DC Fire and EMS.

A crash caused a vehicle to veer off the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C., entering the icy water of the Potomac River. The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on Thursday. The bridge was closed for a crash investigation,
