SAN DIEGO — The failed close calls to winning on the PGA Tour can be excruciating in the moment, but as the scar tissue builds so does the wisdom.

A decade after falling in a playoff at the Farmers Insurance Open, Harris English has found his way into the winner's circle on the coast of California. Converting a one-stroke lead at the 54-hole mark into a one-stroke victory,

Harris English held off hard-charging Sam Stevens to win the Farmers Insurance Open by one shot Saturday, securing his fifth career PGA Tour victory with a 1-over 73 in challenging weather at Torrey Pines.

Harris English finished his 6-under 66 with three straight birdies Friday, charging into a one-shot lead over Andrew Novak at 9-under 207 heading into the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Harris English first flirted with fame at the Farmers Insurance Open a decade ago when he shared the third-round lead and was part of a four-man playoff for the 2015 championship. Jason Day came away the winner that year at Torrey Pines, but English was encouraged, not discouraged.

For the first time since 2021, Harris English is a PGA Tour winner. He survived blustery conditions to win the Farmers Insurance Open.
