Scientists have discovered a gigantic coral in the Pacific, near the Solomon Islands (in western Oceania). It is about 300 years old and three times larger than the previous record-holder, reaching a size comparable to five tennis courts.

At 34 metres wide, the organism is made up of a network of coral polyps, tiny individual creatures. Just when we think there is nothing left to discover on planet earth, we find a massive coral made of nearly one billion little polyps,

This giant measures about 32 metres in length and 34 metres in width; its age is estimated at around 300 years. The coral is three times larger than the previous record-holder (known as Big Momma) and is the size of five tennis courts.
