One dead and several injured in clashes at air force base in Bangladesh - Residents angry over expansion of military base in Cox’s Bazar clash with soldiers

Reports in Bangladesh say a group of residents has attacked an air force base, prompting soldiers to open fire that killed at least one person.

In a brief statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the public relations division of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, said the unprecedented attack at the base in Cox's Bazar led to a confrontation.

At a press conference at the Cox’s Bazar Press Club on Monday evening under the banner of “Residents”, district organiser of the Student Movement, SS Sagar, expressed this stance following the death of one person in the clash.

Local media reported that several people have been injured in the clashes as the air force personnel fired several rounds on the protestors around 11.30 AM, local time.

The attack occurred hours after Home Affairs Adviser, retired Lieutenant General M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, in a press conference reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining law and order.

A local trader at Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, lost his life to a unidentified ‘miscreants’ attack on the local Air Force base on Monday, February 24. Several others have been injured due to the incident.
