RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — One Raleigh police officer was shot and two other people, including the suspect, were killed during a shootout after a burglary call at a home in a south Raleigh neighborhood Tuesday.
Within the past week, the department has responded to two high-profile incidents, that required a major police response. A shooting at the Coquette in North Hills and a shooting in a neighborhood south of downtown.
The Raleigh Police Department is currently responding to “an active police investigation” in the 600 block of Democracy Street. Media outlets report an officer has been shot, but the department has not yet confirmed that or provided other information.
The shooter, later identified as George Colom Jr., eventually died from his injuries after being taken to the hospital in critical condition, Raleigh police said early Sunday morning. A male bystander who was also shot suffered non-life threatening injuries, Police Chief Estella Patterson said at a news conference.
