Canucks Dominate Blues in 5-2 Victory
The Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues squared off on Monday night in a Western Conference battle between two teams desperate to make the playoffs. The Blues entered this game only two points behind the Canucks in the standings and Vancouver began the game three points behind the Calgary Flames for the final wild card spot in the West.
There were a number of milestones and records written as the Vancouver Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2 at Enterprise Center. Head Coach Rick Tocchet said the team was ready from puck drop and was pleased with the way they set the tone early.
The Canucks hadn't won back-to-back games since Dec. 1, but looked more like their old selves against the Blues.
The Canucks opened the scoring early in this one, and surprise surprise, it was Quinn Hughes getting the party started. Hughes moved in on an odd-man rush and slid the puck to Conor Garland, who buried the puck past Jordan Binnington.
Monday night’s 5-2 loss to the Canucks was the latest blow, marking the first time under Jim Montgomery that the Blues have lost three straight games in regulation. The loss also dropped the Blues (23-24-4) below a .500 points percentage for the first time since losing to the Panthers on Dec. 20.
In a highly anticipated NHL Pacific Division clash, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 at Rogers Place on Thursday (Jan. 23). Zach Hyman scored twice for the Oilers, who charged out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and went ahead 5-0 in the middle frame.
