A judge denied TikTok’s motion to dismiss Utah’s lawsuit against the company. Utah first filed its lawsuit in October 2023 against the company alleging violations of the Utah Consumer Protection Act.

A judge has refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the state of Utah against social media giant TikTok, accusing it of crafting addictive algorithms that harm the mental health of youth.

The state of Utah scored a big win today from a judge who denied a request from TikTok to throw out Utah's October 2023 lawsuit against them.

Utah’s lawsuit against TikTok will move forward after a judge on Tuesday denied the social media company’s motion to dismiss.

The lawsuit — originally filed in Oct. 2023 — accuses TikTok of "luring young users into addictive behaviors and misleading them about the app's safety features."
