Elon Musk's social media platform X is suing California over a new state law targeting deceptive, AI-generated election content, claiming that it violates First Amendment free speech protections.

X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, is challenging a California law that requires social media companies to take down deceptive “deepfake” content. X filed a lawsuit in federal court in Sacramento Thursday that argues Assembly Bill 2655 is unconstitutional by violating free speech protections.

X owner Elon Musk lashed out against the anti-deepfakes law and accused California’s Democratic governor of trying to make “parody illegal.”

The new law requires large online platforms to remove or label deceptive election content that's been digitally altered or created.
