A somewhat rare November storm system is gathering steam in the Caribbean Sea. Tropical Storm Sara will eventually make a turn to the east and Florida.

Tropical Storm Sara was grazing the coast of Honduras on Friday, bringing torrential rain and the risk of life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides across Central America. The Honduran authorities said they were bracing for a potentially “catastrophic event.”

Hurricane season isn’t over, as another late-season Caribbean Tropical Storm could be forming. A disturbance in the western Caribbean is likely developing into a Tropical Depression and may soon become the 18th named storm of the season: Tropical Storm Sara.

Tropical Storm Sara has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is forecast to continue strengthening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Satellite imagery can help determine the strength, size and cohesion of a storm. The stronger a storm becomes, the more likely an eye will form in the center. When the eye looks symmetrical, that often means the storm is not encountering anything to weaken it. Sara is the 18th named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024.
