Mike Kafka will get his first official taste of being an NFL head coach Sunday when his New York Giants host the Green Bay Packers, but the longtime Giants offensive coordinator is already something of a known commodity in league coaching circles.

Last May’s NFL schedule release likely didn’t have Sunday’s meeting between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams as a Game of the Year candidate. That’s changed six months later, with each side at 7-2 and on a four-game win streak. Both are tussling for the NFC West lead and a No. 1 seed. Something has to give.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Wednesday that an NFL owner recently called him out about Hafley being a strong fit for the open Giants job. “He goes, ‘Do you have any names that you think could be on the radar?’” Schefter said on ESPN.

In the midst of yet another losing season for the New York Giants, perhaps the biggest silver lining is the 2025 draft class, highlighted by Jaxson Dart, who is believed to be the quarterback of the future.
