People living in flood-prone areas along parts of the East Coast were told to be ready to act if flooding intensifies.

The Flood Watch in effect for parts of the southern Plains, including much of Oklahoma and Texas, was expanded southeast this morning to encompass areas that were hit hard by catastrophic and deadly flash flooding last weekend, including Kerr, Travis and Burnet Counties.

Several factors, both meteorological and geographical, created a nightmare recipe for flash flooding across the Texas Hill Country.

Dangerous heat and severe weather are expected Tuesday across the Washington, D.C., region, with hot, humid conditions pushing heat index values as high as 106 degrees and strong thunderstorms likely this afternoon and evening.

North Texas is currently not under a flood watch, but that could change as storm chances increase this weekend. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Saturday and Sunday, with a Level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall on both days.
