As of this writing, the third film in director Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" series has yet to receive an official greenlight. (The project technically remains in development.) Nonetheless, parent company Warner Bros.

The HBO series is a prequel spin-off to Denis Villeneuve's Dune films and is based on a prequel book to Frank Herbert's Dune novels, titled Sisterhood of Dune and written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.
