At least 544 people have been killed in anti-government protests across Iran, according to data published on Sunday by the Human Rights Activists News Agency.

Other videos posted online show protesters taking to the streets, shouting "death to the dictator" and openly calling for the end of the Islamic Republic.

Anti-government protests have erupted across all 31 of Iran’s provinces in a wave of unrest that marks the biggest challenge to the regime in years.

Video shared on social media on January 9th showed a mosque burning in Tehran during Iran’s most widespread protests in years. The date when the video was recorded could not be independently verified.

Iran protests turn more violent with 65 reportedly killed by Friday and over 2,300 arrested as authorities imposed an internet blackout amid nationwide anti-regime unrest.

"There are further indications that the ongoing protests are challenging the ability and willingness of Iranian security forces to crack down on the protests."

Protests in Iran are intensifying due to the country's struggling economy, putting pressure on its theocracy as it has shut down the internet and telephone networks.
