A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck off the coast of Russia, the US Geographical Survey has reported, and has been followed by a tsunami warning

The watch was issued at 9:03 p.m. after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, but canceled after there was no threat to Hawaii.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre announced the end of a tsunami threat to Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula after five strong earthquakes, the largest at 7.4 magnitude, struck offshore. Initial tsunami warnings were downgraded as the situation stabilized.
