The National Weather Service released a preliminary report on the storm in western Davenport on Friday. Meteorologists surveyed the area Saturday. A preliminary report determined an EF-2 rated tornado with estimated winds of at least 111 mph.
Chad Hahn, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service, also confirmed a tornado did not touch down in Newton or Jasper County. He said there was a strong rotating wall cloud on the storm, which along with the rotation identified on radar prompted the tornado warning.
A flood watch for flash flooding has been issued for roughly a third of the state, including Polk County, through 7 a.m. Friday. Overnight storms moving through central Iowa are packing a punch, with heavy rains and damaging winds.
