Parts of North Florida were blanketed by snow on Tuesday as a winter storm barreled through the South, resulting in the first-ever blizzard warning along parts of the Gulf Coast in Texas and Louisiana.

Snow fell in Florida's panhandle on Tuesday, blanketing roads, closing businesses and schools. Florida residents who had a rare snow day were seen in photos and videos making snowmen and having snowball fights. Meteorologists say the snow may stick around until Wednesday, but won't reach Tampa.

It is the first time in history that blizzard warnings are in effect along parts of the Gulf Coast from Texas into Louisiana.
