The updated version of the song will premiere on UK radio and music streaming platforms on Monday 25th November, marking the 40th anniversary of the 1984 original hit. The first line-up of Band Aid was assembled by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, consisting of such '80s stars as Phil Collins, Tony Hadley, George Michael and Sting.

The 40th anniversary mix will feature performances from the various versions of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

Ed Sheeran says that Band Aid did not ask for permission to re-use his vocals on a new 40th anniversary version of Do They Know It's Christmas? Writing on Instagram, the star said he would have "respectfully" declined the request,

The 40th anniversary "ultimate mix" will feature performances from different versions of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

"A decade on and my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed," he said, referencing criticisms of the way Africa is portrayed in the charity song "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
