Gov. Andy Beshear is sending the National Guard to help staff food banks as about 600,000 Kentuckians experience delays in SNAP benefits from the federal government.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced Tuesday that his administration will classify 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) as a Schedule I narcotic, making it illegal to sell, possess or distribute.

Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Insurance are asking Kentucky insurers to defer termination notices that were issued on or after Oct. 1 due to nonpayment. Insurers are asked to continue coverage for at least 30 more days or 30 days after the end of the federal shutdown, whichever is longer.
