Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has pledged hundreds of billions of dollars towards building massive data centers, days after ratcheting up the AI race with the launch of a division made up of engineers poached from rivals he hopes to challenge.

Members of the lab, including the new chief A.I. officer, Alexandr Wang, have talked about abandoning Meta’s most powerful open source A.I. model in favor of developing a closed one.
